As Bambootel grows, we remain guided by the same principle: every destination should strengthen its connection to place, not diminish it.

This philosophy guides every Bambootel destination. We choose locations carefully, work closely with local partners and artisans, and design experiences that encourage guests to engage more deeply with the culture and environment around them.

Bamboo as
building material
Bamboo is more than an architectural feature at Bambootel. It is a symbol of our values.
Naturally renewable and remarkably resilient, bamboo reaches maturity in just a few years while requiring significantly fewer resources than many conventional building materials. Its strength, flexibility, and natural beauty make it uniquely suited to creating spaces that feel connected to the landscape around them.
Our architecture draws heavily on bamboo craftsmanship, celebrating a material that has been used throughout Indonesia for generations. To help preserve and extend the lifespan of our structures, the bamboo is carefully treated using specialised organic oils, allowing it to remain durable while retaining its natural character.
Like bamboo itself, we believe meaningful growth is patient, rooted, and built to last.
Environmental practices
At Bambootel, sustainability is embedded into how each destination is designed, built, and lived in. Every choice is made with the aim of working in harmony with the landscape over time.
Our architecture responds to its environment through natural airflow, light, and shade, reducing reliance on mechanical cooling and allowing each space to sit comfortably within its surroundings. Energy use is kept low through considered design and efficient operations, with renewable solutions introduced wherever possible.
Water is treated as a shared resource. We reduce consumption through low-flow systems and reuse water for irrigation, supporting the natural balance of the land and surrounding ecosystems. Waste is reduced through composting, careful planning, and the removal of single-use plastics. Everyday essentials are designed with more thoughtful alternatives, including bamboo toothbrushes, bamboo charcoal toothpaste, and refillable amenities. This approach extends to materials and interiors. Waste is reimagined through circular design practices, including furniture and interior pieces created from repurposed materials such as used chopsticks. Food is sourced as locally as possible, shaped by seasonality and used with care to minimise waste. On-site gardens further reduce supply chains while deepening connection to the land.
Each destination is designed to protect its natural setting, working with the landscape rather than against it, and recognising that environmental care also means caring for the communities that belong to it.
For us, sustainability is not a layer added to hospitality. It is the way hospitality is done.

Across Bambootel, we are developing our own approach to waste management as part of a longer journey towards a zero-waste future. By reducing what we consume, composting what can return to the earth, and finding new purpose for materials that might otherwise be discarded, we aim to use resources with greater care and intention.
Like many things worth building, this is a gradual process. One shaped by learning, improvement, and a commitment to leaving each place a little better than we found it.
